AstroNAT
For this series, I envisioned creating a vibrant comic book strip centered around a space woman who crash-lands on a mysterious planet. My goal was to craft a world that felt weird and funky, steering away from realism to embrace the imaginative spirit of comic books.
Once I had the concept and background figured out, I collaborated with my stylist to design a 'space' look. Rather than opting for a traditional astronaut outfit, I aimed for a comic book hero aesthetic. We settled on a striking gold suit and crafted elements that would enhance the narrative. This included a sleek gold space gun, a tank backpack, and a futuristic gold tiara. To add to the sci-fi vibe, we sourced glasses that lit up, amplifying the futuristic feel.
With all the elements in place, we shot in the studio, playing with colorful lights to seamlessly blend the model with the backgrounds. We created dynamic, dramatic lighting to enhance the visual storytelling, including one shot that mimicked the light of the gun firing.
As I began to compile everything, I realized I wanted the final product to be funky and textured, just like a comic book. I applied a comic book print overlay and added bold black edges around the model to stylize the images, rather than simply layering them. Finally, I arranged the images in a comic strip format and created a video with music to guide viewers through the flow of the story.
I titled the story AstroNAT playfully playing with the models actual name ‘Natalie’. just another eater egg to all the details that end up going into these types of images.
