Wilder Marroquin

Born in Guatemala, Wilder moved to the United States during elementary school. Initially unfamiliar with the English language, he instinctively turned to photographs and images as a means of communication. The diverse cultures, languages, and customs he encountered fostered a deep curiosity about his new environment, a practice he later channeled into his photography career.

Wilder has worked under various photographers with distinct styles, assuming roles that range from producer to post-production specialist. This experience has enabled him to gain a comprehensive understanding of the art of photography, resulting in a versatile personal style and the ability to adapt to different aesthetics. As a graduate in graphic design from USC, Wilder explored painting during his time in art school, where his Guatemalan heritage significantly influenced his vibrant use of color. Towards the end of his studies, he began creating sculptures that invited viewer interaction.

Transferring this concept into photography, Wilder adeptly employs light and color as his medium, crafting a cohesive body of work that continues his dialogue through art. Embracing the advancements of AI, he skillfully integrates this technology into his creative process, intentionally leaving elements of imperfection to blur the lines between what is real and what is generated. This approach echoes his sculptural work, emphasizing the importance of viewer engagement.

Stylistically, Wilder's work occupies a unique space that melds influences from the three photography realms he has explored: lifestyle, mainstream commercial, and fashion editorial. His oeuvre revolves around storytelling and the manipulation of realism, often described as lifestyle photography with whimsical narratives, composed commercial imagery infused with humanity, or fashion editorial pieces with an inventive twist on life. Each work reflects his commitment to storytelling, incorporating graphics, AI, or distinctive lighting effects.
