Fun With Animals

As we advance into a new era of technology, artificial intelligence (AI) plays a significant role. While many in the industry remain cautious about its potential and applications, I embrace AI as a powerful tool to craft intriguing projects. My journey began when I launched my initial series, "Fun with Animals." Inspiration struck while browsing art books with my daughter; I encountered an impressive pencil drawing depicting a person riding a fish as though it were a racehorse. This imagery sparked my imagination, and I considered various methods, such as photographing a fish and digitally integrating a model. However, the complexity was overwhelming.

Recognizing the potential of AI, I decided to generate a digital background and seamlessly incorporate my model into it. I began by developing a series of backgrounds based on a detailed shot list. Realizing the challenge of achieving perfection in a single step, I proceeded to create individual elements for digital compositing, akin to layering photographic plates. Once the background and its components were ready, I photographed the model to ensure the lighting matched the digital environment. Finally, I meticulously combined all the elements to produce the finished piece.

Once on set, I noticed that some images required shadows cast by the animals I intended to include. To address this, I had my daughter stand in to create the necessary shadows. This decision revealed an unexpected benefit: the model appeared more at ease and natural when interacting with a live person, allowing for eye contact. We implemented this strategy consistently throughout the shoot. This interaction introduced a humanizing element to the project, enhancing its overall authenticity and connection within the imaginative concept.
